Bruce Springsteen has posted a new note updating fans on the condition of saxophonist Clarence Clemons.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are inseparable. Always giving off the air of a street gang as opposed to mere musicians, the group have a bond which continues offstage and has lasted for decades.
Sadly, though, one of their number of now seriously ill. Saxophonist Clarence Clemons has suffered a stroke, with the musician being rushed to hospital over the weekend.
Fans were obviously worried, and now Bruce Springsteen himself has stepped in to offer a brief update. “By now, many of you have heard that our beloved comrade and sax player Clarence Clemons has suffered a serious stroke.”
“While all initial signs are encouraging, Clarence will need much care and support to achieve his potential once again. He has his wonderfully supportive wife, Victoria, excellent doctors and health care professionals, and is surrounded by friends and family. I thank you all for your prayers and positive energy and concern. This is a time for us all to share in a hopeful spirit that can ultimately inspire Clarence to greater heights. — Bruce Springsteen”.
The exact nature of Clemons condition remains unclear. However American magazine Backstreets has reported that the saxophone player has had two brain surgeries but is in “responsive and in stable condition”.
Clarence Clemons has struggled with his health of late. Speaking to Rolling Stone earlier this year, the saxophone player admitted that the last E Street tour was an endurance test. “That last tour was hell. Pure hell…I’m walking better now, though I still use a cane and crutches. But now I’m having hip problems again. I don’t know why.”
Clarence Clemons remains under hospital care.
