Clarence Clemons Tribute Planned

Tune in tonight (June 21st)

ClashMusic has been involved in a special tribute to Clarence Clemons which is set to broadcast tonight (June 21st).

The E Street Band weren’t the best musicians on the planet, but the noise they made when they came together was difficult to surpass. The sheer chemistry of the musicians involved helped to drive them to worldwide success.

Sadly, saxophonist Clarence Clemons passed away recently. Suffering a stroke, the musician was rushed to hospital and despite expert care and attention has passed away on Saturday (June 21st).

Bruce Springsteen broke the news to fans, paying tribute to Clarence Clemons artistry and his passion for music. Since then, a number of special tributes have been made to the saxophonist with friends, family and famous admirers remembering the saxophonist.

A gutsy player, Clarence Clemons gift to the E Street Band was not his dexterity but an overwhelming sense of personality. Another saxophone player can learn the notes and even his rasping tone, but what lies beneath, the sense of joy which rippled through his work can scarcely be replaced.

Clash Magazine editor Simon Harper is set to present a tribute show to the saxophonist tonight (June 21st). A massive fan of the E Street Band, Simon Harper has prepared a two hour special show includes classic cuts such as ‘Born To Run’ and ‘Jungleland’ alongside some lesser known tracks.

Teaming up with New York based radio station East Village Radio, Simon Harper will run through Clarence Clemons career while giving a taste of the man himself through some archive interviews.

East Village Radio is available to stream online, and we thoroughly recommend tuning in. The tribute to Clarence Clemons will be broadcast tonight (June 21st) at 7pm (GMT) and 2pm ET.
