Clap Your Hands Say Yeah singer Alec Ounsworth has completed his new album ‘Mo Beauty’.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were a triumph of the emerging download culture. Long before blogs became a buzz word the band’s material was being recorded at home and distributed across the internet.
Meeting at Connecticut College the band started out with a weekly residency in a small bar in Manhattan. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah released their self-titled album in 2005, and became a surprise hit.
Initially self-released the album was later snapped up by Wichita Records, and quickly gained rave reviews. Sounding a bit like a fractured post-punk vision of David Bowie the band quickly moved to record a follow up.
Touring heavily, second album ‘Some Loud Thunder’ was released in 2007 and generally failed to reach the heights of their illustrious debut. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah had a much wider repertoire than this, however, with many songs not being given an official release.
After preparing a live album for release Clap Your Hands Say Yeah went on hiatus. However confusion exists over whether the break could be permanent, and fans are already speculating that singer Alec Ounsworth may be set to launch a solo career.
The frontman is famed for his David Byrne-like croon, but on his new solo album Ounsworth has recruited some top soul and funk veterans. Heading down to New Orleans to get a really authentic vibe, Alec Ounsworth has worked with George Porter Jr. of the Meters, Stanton Moore of Galactic, Robert Walter of Greyboy Allstars and many more.
Eagerly awaited by fans, Alec Ounsworth’s debut album marks the exciting re-emergence of a extremely talented songwriter.
