Lead singer of Coldplay Chris Martin has given a revealing new interview in which he declares that he doesn’t feel he deserves the success he has.
Since last year’s album ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’ sliced open charts across the globe, Coldplay have become elevated to a rare pantheon of fame. Overnight transformed into the biggest band on the planet, the album was one of the year’s biggest sellers eventually topping charts in over thirty five countries.
Chris Martin has come a long way. Coldplay began life as yet another post-Radiohead indie hype, but soon overcome doubters with their heartbreaking songwriting. With an ambition that set them ahead of their peers the group have adapted and changed with each album, challenging themselves as the record sales mounted up.
In a new interview however the singer reveals that he feels he doesn’t deserve the success he has been given. “Every day I wake up and think, ‘OK, today we’ve got to really prove ourselves. We’ve got to justify where we are.'”
“I always feel like my dad’s going to burst through my bedroom door at any moment and wake me up to go back to my real job.”
Speaking to New Zealand’s Sunday Star Times the singer went on to explain that “if everyone liked us then it wouldn’t mean anything to like us. For example, I love Sherlock Holmes books. A lot of other people think they’re c**p, but I’m a fan. These books are special to me, so if you don’t like them, you can all f**k off.”
Coldplay are currently on their new world tour, recently playing massive dates in Australia as part of the bush fire benefit concerts.
