Much loved cockney duo Chas And Dave could be set to play a farewell show after Dave Peacock announced he was leaving the band.
Chas And Dave are a British pop institution. Their sound harked back to the glory days of music halls, pianos in pub corners and the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.
Releasing their debut album in 1975 the duo soon found chart success. Chas And Dave scaled the countdown with singles such as ‘Snooker Loopy’ and ‘Rabbit’ both hitting the number one spot on the official chart.
However fans were rocked yesterday when Chas And Dave called time on their career. In a statement Dave Peacock claimed that he simply could not continue without support from his wife, who died recently.
Now it seems that the career of Chas And Dave may not quite be over. Speaking to the NME Chas Hodges revealed that a final fling could be in order.
“That would be entirely up to Dave, a farewell gig,” he explained. “I’d be up for it if Dave wants to do it – but I’ve left it entirely up to Dave.”
There had been controversy yesterday (September 22nd) after Dave Peacock denied that he was leaving music altogether. “He’s retiring from Chas & Dave,” he said. “Yeah, he said to me about a month ago. He just said ‘I don’t wanna come back to work, old boy. I’m happy doing what I’m doing.’ He’s got his gypsy wagons (which) he restores.”
Chas Hodges has vowed to keep the flame alive with his group Chas & His Band which are set to fulfil all outstanding Chas And Dave dates.
Meanwhile, fans have started an online petition in an attempt to make Chas And Dave play a final show.
