Cautious Clay has shared new single ‘Ohio’.
The Cleveland-born, New York-based songwriter is ready to inaugurate the next chapter in his career, building on 2021’s wonderful ‘Deadpan Love’. Freshly signed to iconic label Blue Note Records, the artist – real name Joshua Karpeh – is taking a step forwards.
New single ‘Ohio’ is out now, a breezy jammer that melds 70s funk leanings and his pop-etched vocals. Cautious Clay dips into the Isley Brothers playbook, with that elastic bassline worthy of a place in a Norman Jay rare groove set.
Yet it’s more than that. Cautious Clay builds outwards, with his wistful vocal carrying pangs of emotion, resulting in something bittersweet.
A fusion of light and shade, ‘Ohio’ sits on the legacy of his prior work, while also opening out new questions – on this form, Cautious Clay is writing his own narrative.
Tune in now.
