Catherine Graindorge, Iggy Pop Share Challenging New ‘The Dictator’

Reflecting the duality of the collaborative process...

Catherine Graindorge and Iggy Pop combine on enthralling new collaboration ‘The Dictator’.

Is there a more potent voice in music than Iggy Pop? His inimitable growl spans the decades, remaining a by-word in illicit, counter-cultural behaviour. Clash never misses an episode of his 6Music shows, with Iggy reinventing himself as a bold broadcaster, platforming new music and old, while championing voices from the left-field.

Last year he played a few tracks by Belgian composer Catherine Graindorge, and she was stunned by the co-sign. Getting in touch, communication developed, and she decided to invite Iggy to work on something new.

The proto-punk godfather was up for the challenge, and his vocal adorns riveting new track ‘The Dictator’. A song shrouded in darkness, it echoes the paranoia of these times, while also offers a glimpse of the light that awaits us.

Catherine says of the song: “Iggy said to send him a track. I began to improvise, and came up with three pieces. We communicated and started to exchange ideas.”

For his part, Iggy Pop explains: “My contribution is to report, through words, the current threat and the longing for happiness and peace.”

An intense, sombre workout, it makes for a riveting listen, with Catherine’s soundscapes providing the perfect foil for Iggy Pop’s spoken word delivery.

We’ve got first play of the video, and it’s simple, striking set up reflects the potency of the music, and the duality of the collaborative process.

Tune in now.
