Dirty Pretty Things frontman Carl Barat is reportedly set to play the role of a scientist in a new British film, accoridng to an interview in The Sunday Mail.
The singer has already filmed a special appearance as doomed 50s rocker Gene Vincent in the forthcoming movie ‘Telstar’, and will follow this by playing a scientist. Barat told the The Sunday Mail he was looking forward to the role, but wouldn’t be drawn on the film’s title.
I have something coming up,” he said. “It’s a very different direction (to ‘Telstar’) – a part you really would not expect me to play which makes it very exciting.”
“I’ll be playing a scientist in a new British film which will be weird but cool.”
‘Telstar’ is based on the life of songwriter and producer Joe Meek, who crafted some of the biggest hits of the early rock ‘n’ roll era. The Tornadoes ‘Telstar’ was perhaps his biggest hit, a trans-atlantic number one which earned him the name ‘The English Phil Spector’.
‘Telstar’ is due to premiere at the London Film Festival later this month.
