Carl Barat has claimed that he would love to record an album of new material with comeback indie kings The Libertines.
They came, they saw and they threw it all away. The Libertines story has everything a few could want, apart from an extensive back catalogue. Leaving behind them just two complete albums, the band’s recent comeback has stoked rumours of new material.
Performing a handful of London shows, The Libertines are preparing to play an enormous show at Reading and Leeds. Warming up for Guns N Roses, the London rascals have entered the upper echelons of rock music.
Speaking to fans at a special Q&A, Carl Barat explained that he’d love to work on new material with the band. “I reckon so. Of course, we’ve got that vessel, The Libertines, and of course we want to do other things, but it’s a funny old business. Yeah, but ideally I’d love that. We’ll just see how it goes.”
The singer was performing at the Levi’s store in London. Before speaking to fans, Carl Barat played a short acoustic set, which included a few Libertines classics alongside material from his solo album.
Opening with ‘Deadwood’ Carl Barat finished with the iconic Libertines track ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’. However don’t go expecting new material to drop any time soon, with the songwriter explaining that the band’s partnership will always be there.
“The Libertines isn’t gonna drop dead. I can now get in touch with them and say, ‘Look, what process of what band are you in?'”
Meanwhile, the build up to Reading and Leeds continues. Organisers have promised that Guns N Roses will perform, and have stated that they have contingency plans if the rock icons go past the cut off point.
Never known for their discipline, Guns N Roses remain a hugely controversial band. Other acts set to perform include Arcade Fire, Blink 182 and many, many more.
Watch out for updates through the weekend!
