For a nation where grey clouds and drizzle seem to be permanently glued to the sky line, the Scots seem mysteriously able to craft a sun shine soaked melody.
Take Camera Obscura. For years now the band have built a cult following with their shimmering 60s influenced pop, sounding not unlike Belle & Sebastian in one of Stuart Murdoch’s rare chirpy moods.
The band recently made the switch to 4AD for what is surely their biggest release to date. Their first album since 2007, label debut ‘My Maudlin Career’ is an assured blast of sweet indie pop in the group’s inimitable style.
Fans are waiting with baited breath for the album, which sees Camera Obscura take up residence with the spiritual home of all things indie 4AD. The first glimpse many will have of the new album will be forthcoming single ‘French Navy’.
Taken from the album, it finds the group on fine form. Camera Obscura recently took their peculiarly Scottish brand of pop to Austin, Texas where they stunned crowds at South By South West.
With ‘My Maudlin Career’ due out on April 20th, the long wait will soon be over for fans. New single ‘French Navy’ will be released on April 13th, to watch the video just click below!
