Scottish dance giant Calvin Harris has bagged the top spot on the UK charts with his new album ‘Ready For The Weekend’.
Was there ever any doubt? After the titanic success of last year’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and this summer’s ‘I’m Not Alone’ Scottish dance don Calvin Harris has raced to the top of the charts with his latest long player ‘Ready For The Weekend’.
Hailing from Dumfries, Calvin Harris began life crafting credible funky house before deciding to make good on his natural pop touch. Blending 80s electro pop with his very individual style the producer soon scored massive chart hits.
However that hasn’t made him immune to criticism. ‘Ready For The Weekend’ may be a huge commercial hit but critical reception has been mixed, with one reviewer daring to give Calvin Harris a mere two stars out of five.
In a foul mouthed Twitter rant the Scottish dancefloor titan ripped into the anonymous reviewer, asking what right they had to judge his music. Calvin Harris later explained the internet meltdown, claiming he had worked too long on the album to allow people to criticise it.
Calvin Harris has had the last laugh, with his new album hitting the top of the charts. The producer knocked Michael Jackson from the pole position, with ‘The Essential’ dropping down to number six.
The ‘Thriller’ icon had been at number one for seven weeks with ‘The Essential’, with ‘Number Ones’ having also claimed one week as the nation’s favourite.
Over on the singles chart Akon has claimed the top spot with his new single ‘Sexy Chick’. Kanye West sponsored singer Mr Hudson has raced into the Top Ten with his new single ‘Supernova’.
