Scottish dance hit machine Calvin Harris is strongly rumoured to be working with faux-lesbit Katy Perry.
Calvin Harris broke through with his song ‘Acceptable In The 80s’. A song heavily influenced by Daft Punk, the track’s tongue in cheek irony charmed and infuriated many. It nonetheless became one of the biggest singles of 2007, and made Harris an in-demand producer.
Since then, the Scottish dance guru has worked with Dizee Rascal in a collaboration that produced perhaps last summer’s defining hit, ‘Dance Wiv Me’ was cheeky, storming pop song that raced up the charts as the red hot sun stood in the sky.
However this may not be the last team up that Calvin Harris is due to be a part of, with the producer rumoured to be working with Katy Perry.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat Harris said: “There are some murmurings about (working with) Katy Perry. But you can never tell with Americans whether it’ll happen or not.”
He continued saying: “She sent me a big long email comparing me to Phil Spector which I found incredible, but you’ve got to laugh haven’t you? So that was great and we’re possibly doing something.”
Wait a minute… Calvin Harris and Phil Spector? Now THAT would be a collaboration. Sadly, it looks as if that won’t happen (for the time being at least) so the Scottish producer will have to content himself with Katy Perry.
“She (Katy Perry) wants to do like a fun album, like a dance album but obviously still pop. I kind of fit that bill so I guess that’s why she thought of me. It’d be that kind of thing.”
Harris added that the American singer isn’t the only possible collaborator. “There are a bunch of people that I could be doing stuff with,” he said. “To be honest probably half of it won’t work out because I’m on the road for most of the year now.”
