Scottish dance producer Calvin Harris has given a new interview in which he claims he lied to gain more time to work on his new album.
Hailing from Dumfries, Calvin Harris blends a retro sound with a furiously pop touch. The producer seems to always strike it lucky in the summer scoring hits such as ‘Girls’ and ‘Dance Wiv Me’ while the sun is high in the sky.
In recent weeks the weather has improved and Calvin Harris has released his first new single in some time. No surprises, then, that ‘I’m Not Alone’ has become a huge smash soaring straight into the charts at number one.
However that success may have come after a lie from the producer. Calvin Harris claimed to have lost the master tapes of his new album at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 last year but the hit maker now admits he made the story up.
“The first tactic of delaying the album was pretending that I lost it at Heathrow. That one worked pretty well.”
“I should make it clear that they did in fact lose our bags – that is fact,” he explained. “But it was not true that the album was in them. I would never check a hard drive in luggage. So the thing about Heathrow wasn’t so much a lie, as…well…an untruth.”
In a statement last April Harris’ spokesperson claimed he was offered £750 by way of compensation.
“He has lost the only copy of the new album,” the spokesperson said at the time. “It is a big cause for concern – months of work have gone into that.”
Calvin Harris will release his second album later this year.
