Calexico are set to release their sixth studio album ‘Algiers’ on September 10th.
With more than twenty years behind them, Calexico remain one of the central pivots of what is often termed Americana. Exploring American identity through song, their music filters through influences from across the globe.
Laying down material last year, Calexico are now seemingly ready to return. New album ‘Algiers’ will be released this summer, with the title acting as a reference to where it was recorded.
“We were talking about wanting to go to Europe and record,” Joey Burns explained recently, “but we never get our stuff together in time to make plans that far in advance. So where do you go that is nearby and has a European feel? New Orleans.”
Due for release on September 10th, Calexico have also decided to give away a special preview. ‘Para’ is available as a free download – grab it HERE – while the track has also been given the visual treatment.
