Cakes Da Killa returns with new single ‘Drugs Du Jour’.
Out now, it marks a busy period for this iconoclastic talent, someone who continually burns his own path. Recent single ‘Sip Of My Sip’ emphasised his songwriting, and his potent vocals – this time round, he seems keen to sit back, and push the production to the forefront.
‘Drugs Du Jour’ is another singular work, with the purring studio effects blending with his voice, the two at times indistinguishable. The impact of slightly disorienting, while still soulful, his deep, sonorous approach links to New York club life while also offering something vastly personal.
An attempt to stand out, he comments…
“With so much online noise artists have become the flavor of the day. I wanted to step back on the scene to ask, “Do you really speak the language? Do you know what your name is?” Calling into question the validity of the industry.”
Tune in now.
