Cafe OTO Launches Own Label

OtoRoku imprint launches

London avant garde hotspot Cafe OTO is gearing up to launch its own OtoRoku imprint.

Cafe OTO is rapidly becoming one of London’s most precious venues. The tiny spot somehow manages to pull in exclusive performances from avant garde greats, making for incredible, intimate shows.

Now the venue plans to launch its own imprint. Cafe OTO will usher OtoRoku into the world later this year, with the label seemingly set to focus on live performances recorded during shows at the London spot.

OtoRoku will open with Peter Brötzmann’s first trip to Cafe Oto back in January 2010 – a performance which featured Steve Noble and John Edwards.

Due to be released on vinyl, the set will be titled ‘…The Worse, The Better’ and Peter Brötzmann has stepped in to design the cover.

Cafe OTO are also planning to open a web shop, while each record will be on sale at the venue. There is no official release date, although The Wire have speculated that the first release will fall in March.

No word on the future schedule of OtoRoku, although if it sticks to past shows then the material could well be worth looking out for.

The past 18 months have seen the London venue host some incredible shows, including an intimate date from Kim Gordon and Bill Nace and a series of performances curated by SUNN O))) lynchpin Stephen O’Malley.
