C Duncan’s ‘Health’ Is A Stunning Evocation Of The End Of A Relationship

"I couldn’t hold onto it, and we started to drift apart..."

C Duncan is ready to face the world.

The Glasgow composer's previous work – lavished with acclaim and Mercury nominated – was largely self-produced, a potent but isolated talent, working on his own terms.

But with new album 'Health' he's decided to open up. Meeting with other voices, fresh collaborators, the songwriter installed Elbow’s Craig Potter installed as producer and began working on his most daring, personal work yet.

A record that covers grief, heartbreak, mental health issues, and having the power to continue through it all, 'Health' is a sumptuous, always-inspired listen.

C Duncan commented recently: “Writing it was a very cathartic process. It helped me through a lot of tough times and also to celebrate the good…”

We're able to bring you the title track, a beautiful if troubled listen, one that hones in on the final days and weeks of a relationship, and it's impact on his life.

There's a disrupted element to the sounds, with 'Health' constantly feeling ill at ease with itself, before it shifts into a finale that brings some form of resolution.

Mature, and expertly thought through, it's a sign of C Duncan's blossoming artistry, his ability to stretch his wings still further. He comments:

"The track is about the the end of a previous relationship. It was very intense but I couldn’t hold onto it, and we started to drift apart. This had a huge impact on both our mental health and the only way to remedy this was to go our separate ways. It was an extremely painful breakup as up until then we shared everything, but one that was necessary to get us both back on track."

Tune in now.

'Health' will be released on March 29th.
