Bushfire Concerts Rumoured

Coldplay, Foo Fighters in frame

No one who saw the recent footage of the Australian bush fires could fail to have been moved by the scale of the tragedy.

Sweeping across the southern state of Victoria, the fires caused an immense amount of damage with the death toll ultimately reaching two hundred. The fires caused damage worth hundreds of millions of dollars, with the north of the country now battling severe floods.

Speculation is mounting that two massive benefit concerts could be held to raise funds for those affected, with the events being spearheaded by veteran promoters Michael Gudinski and Michael Chugg.

The 100,000-capacity Melbourne Cricket Ground and the 45,000-plus capacity Sydney Cricket Ground are being mooted as possible venues, with March 14th being the date mentioned by US magazine Billboard.

Amongst the names predicted to appear on the bill are Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Kings Of Leon and many more. Coldplay would be in the country around the time of the rumoured concerts, with the group playing the Australian leg of their world tour.

News of the concerts have emerged from an unlikely source. The Australian cricket season hosts it centrepiece final at the same time and place as the concerts, leaving the sports ruling bodies in a quandary.

The proposed bushfire benefit concerts will take place on March 14th.
