'The River' remains of Bruce Springsteen's most-loved documents, with the legendary songwriter set to expand on its mythology with a new box set.
The full 4CD/3DVD document features unreleased tracks, demos, rarities, live recordings and much more, telling the full tale of this ambitious album.
The package presents the full album across two CDs, alongside two bonus discs. 'The River: Single Album' is the initial ten track LP recording in 1979 as a follow up to 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town'. The Boss remarks: "The songs lacked the kind of unity and conceptual intensity I liked my music to have. So we went back in the studio."
The fourth CD is 'The River: Outtakes', which tells the full story of album sessions that stretch across a two year period. The DVDs include new film 'The Ties That Bind', which features a lengthy and intimate chat with Bruce Springsteen about the album, its recording, his intentions and its legacy.
The final visual accompaniment is 'Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: The River Tour, Tempe 1980', a new film featuring 24 tracks shot during the singer's 1980 Stateside tour. The performance is said to be one of the most intense of Springsteen's career, and his never been given an official release.
'The Ties That Bind: The River Collection' will be released as a 10" x 12" box with a hardcover 148-page coffee table book containing 200 studio and live photographs, plus pages from Springsteen's notebooks, single covers, images and out-takes from the original album package, and other memorabilia documenting the album.
Phew! It'll be released on December 4th – pre-order LINK.
