Bruce Springsteen has hit number one on the charts with his new album ‘Wrecking Ball’.
The Boss is back. A politically charged return, ‘Wrecking Ball’ has found Bruce Springsteen re-discovering his visceral side. Much more direct than recent material, the album tackles life in recession America.
Strong pre-orders and first day sales pushed Bruce Springsteen ahead in the charts, although the New Jersey faced tough competition.
The Military Wives also released their debut album last week, following the success of festive single ‘Wherever You Are’. The first classical single to hit number one on the charts, the follow up LP has enjoyed massive sales.
Coming from behind to push Bruce Springsteen all the way, in the end there could only be one winner. Pushing ahead by a margin of only 18,000 sales, the Official Chart Company report that The Boss has claimed the eighth number one album of his career.
The Military Wives make do with second place, while other new entries in the Top Ten come from Lionel Ritchie and Katie Melua.
Perennial family favourites Gilbert O’Sullivan’s ‘The Very Best Of’ lands just outside the Top Ten at number twelve, while Civil Wars reached thirteen with their new collection ‘Barton Hollow’.
Acclaimed newcomers Dry The River released their debut album last week, with ‘Shallow Bed’ finding the band making good on their early promise. Reaching a not-to-be-sniffed at 28, the band are nestled between Kanye West & Jay-Z and Meat Loaf.
Not a bad place to be…
