Indie mavericks British Sea Power have recorded a new World Cup anthem which you can download for free.
Extremely book-ish, British Sea Power are also noted fans of football. The band have often spoken of their love for the beautiful game, with the indie mavericks even nodding to Canvey Island FC on their ‘Do You Like Rock Music?’ album.
Currently working on new material, the band have recorded a world cup anthem. In case you haven’t noticed, the tournament is currently underway in South Africa with the globe watching in anticipation.
With England refusing to adopt a team anthem a number of acts have stepped in to fill the breach. Dizzee Rascal and James Corden are currently at number one with their single ‘Shout’ while even Mark E Smith has got in on the act.
Now British Sea Power have added their voices to the refrain. Settling down into the studio, the band have been inspired to write ‘Football (Kick It In The Goal)’.
Typically eccentric, the track takes inspiration from a calypso song written to commemorate the opening of the Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada.
Members of British Sea Power have helped record the track, alongside some notable indie names. Close friends Marc Beatty and Eamon Hamilton of Brakes have been joined by The Modern Ovens’ Darren Moon and Matt Eaton.
Together, the band are known as The Bench Warmers with their track ‘Football (Kick It In The Goal)’ available from the official British Sea Power website – click HERE to grab it!
Elsewhere, British Sea Power have been putting the finishing touches to their own festival. Taking place at the Tap Hill Inn, ‘Sing Ye From The Hillsides II’ will contain a mixture of music and merriment, with fans able to take rides in hot air balloons.
British Sea Power are set to release a new album later this year.
