British Sea Power On New Album

Alan Partridge inspired title..?

Indie mavericks British Sea Power have spoken exclusively to ClashMusic about their new album.

British Sea Power are deeply, well, British. The band take their cue from aspects of British life long since passed, adding an almost David Lynch style sense of mystery to their inspiration.

Releasing ‘Do You Like Rock Music?’ in 2008, British Sea Power seemed to almost define their sound. A bulkier, beefed up affair than previous efforts it won considerable acclaim including a Mercury Music Prize.

Speaking to ClashMusic, singer Yan revealed that they have been working hard on a follow up. “It is almost ready, although it’s becoming a bit of a monster. It should be finished and out during July or August.”

Continuing, the frontman explained that the new material is deeply influenced by soundtrack work. “We wanted more spacious songs where you are allowing things to grow quite naturally and slowly. Combined with that was a ‘Do You Like Rock Music?’ element – it was quite a tricky thing really”.

Later, the singer revealed that British Sea Power have been struggling to come up with a name for the new project. “We’ve gone through some pretty weird titles. ‘Needing Diesel’ was going to be one for about a month. A couple of Alan Partridge inspired ones. It’s quite confusing at the minute, because it’s really pressure on at the minute.”
