Dublin risers Bricknasty have shared new song ‘Fashion’.
Out now, it opens a new chapter for the band. Devoutly independent, they’ve just signed to FAMM, whose roster includes Jorja Smith, Enny, and Maverick Sabre. The group walk their own path, drawing from indie, rap, and beyond to create a street-level view of working class Dublin life.
Closing 2022 with ‘Ina Crueler’, Bricknasty kick off their next phase with emphatic single ‘Fashion’. A rejection of prevailing trends, it urges fans to think for themselves, and build their own world, before making space for a guest spot from Dublin alt-rap talent KhakiKid.
Bricknasty say of the fashion realm: “they aren’t worth the piss they’re printed on, it’s not something we give a shit about at all.”
The band’s Fatboy grew up in Ballymun, a tough area of Dublin dominated by two tower flat. Looking back, he comments:
“It was coming off the back of the heroin epidemic in the 90s and there was loads in the news about Ballymun and the type of people who lived there. But anyone what lived in them flats at that time will tell you they were unreal to live in and the sense of community was very strong.”
Telling it like it is, Bricknasty seem to have something different, illuminating an aspect of Dublin life seldom seen.
Tune in now.
