Progress has been made for a proposed biopic based on the life of tragic Beach Boys genius Brian Wilson.
Brian Wilson’s glorious music belies a tragic back story. Responsible for soundtracking teenage life during the 60s, the Beach Boys released hit single after hit single challenging themselves and other groups.
Pushing forward to greater artistic heights, the strain took its toll on songwriter Brian Wilson. With his drug use spiralling, Wilson cracked and endured a breakdown which led to years of mental illness.
Proposals have long since been put toward for a potential biopic, with Diablo Cody recently telling a press conference at the LA Film Festival that her dream job was working on a film based on Brian Wilson’s life.
Sadly for Cody, it seems that progress is already being made on that front. River Road Entertainment have confirmed that they have begun the process of buying up the rights and have commissioned Oren Moverman to write a script (via IndieWire).
The writer is best known for ‘The Messenger’ which was nominated for ‘Best Original Screenplay’ at the Academy awards.
A hugely respected writer, Oren Moverman is best known for his work on gritty, realistic dramas. Past credits even include the odd music based biopic, including the Dylan inspired film ‘I’m Not There’.
Continually in demand, Oren Moverman is also working on a Kurt Cobain film for Universal and Working Title.
Little else is known so far, although veteran writer/producer John Wells is also on board. Moverman is expected to helm the upcoming Cobain flick, and speculation has immediately linked him with the Director’s chair.
Shooting has yet to start on the new Brian Wilson biopic.
