Brandon Flowers Tops UK Charts

'Flamingo' hits number one

The Killers singer Brandon Flowers has struck chart gold with ‘Flamingo’ hitting number one.

Making the decision to go solo earlier this year, Brandon Flowers took on a huge risk. The Killers singer made his name with the Las Vegas group, enjoying the support offered to him by his band mates.

However the decision seems to have paid off. Brandon Flowers recorded his debut album earlier this year, with ‘Flamingo’ being released to widespread plaudits.

Already spawning a Top Ten single, ‘Flamingo’ has now topped the album charts. Brandon Flowers beat off competition from Katy Perry to scoop pole position, enjoying strong sales in just the first week of release.

Celebrating his victory, Brandon Flowers is set to begin preparations for a new tour. Meanwhile, fellow members of The Killers are due to participate in the upcoming Mt Desolation project.

Elsewhere on the charts, the Mercury effect can be felt with The xx soaring into the Top Five. The renewed exposure offered by the Barclaycard Mercury Prize has sent the London band flying up the charts.

Reaching a new high, The xx have moved from 16 up to number three – a total of thirteen places.

Manchester newcomers Hurts have entered the charts at number four, with their debut album ‘Happiness’ buoyed by warm reviews. Ice cold electro pop, the duo are set to tour throughout the Autumn.

Other new entries on this week’s album chart include the new album from Stone Sour. The American rock outfit scored a number six entry with their new release ‘Audio Secrecy’ beating off competition from Biffy Clyro and Eliza Doolittle.

The current Top Ten albums are:

1. Brandon Flowers – ‘Flamingo’
2. Katy Perry – ‘Teenage Dream’
3. The xx – ‘xx’
4. Hurts – ‘Happiness’
5. Eminem – ‘Recovery’
6. Stone Sour – ‘Audio Secrecy’
7. Biffy Clyro – ‘Only Revolutions’
8. Mumford And Sons – ‘Sigh No More’
9. Eliza Doolittle – ‘Eliza Doolittle’
10. Lady Gaga – ‘The Fame’
