boygenius Announce Debut Album ‘the record’; Share Three New Songs

Listen to '$20', 'Emily I'm Sorry' and 'True Blue' now...

boygenius have announced plans for debut album ‘the record’.

The trio are a true super group, comprising three of our favourite songwriters: Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker. Uniting to construct a singular EP in 2018, the material pieced together by the group has taken on a life of its own.

A demo EP was shared in 2020, but since then little has been heard from boygenius. A one-off charity show sent tongues wagging, with Lucy Dacus telling Clash last year:

We played a boygenius show for charity two weeks ago, which was amazing. We’re all so busy, it’s really hard to hang out. So really, we used this as an excuse. We were all very emotional, like, putting on our jackets that we hadn’t worn since 2018. And, yeah… so much has changed.

boygenius were listed on the Coachella line up for this summer’s event, with all three members sending their websites blank in anticipation of… something.

‘the record’ is the project’s first full length album, and it was self-produced at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California. Out on March 31st, it is preceded by three brand new songs: ‘$20’, ‘Emily I’m Sorry’, and ‘True Blue’.
