DIY indie heroes for new film

DIY indie heroes The Boxer Rebellion are set to star in the new Drew Barrymore film 'Going The Distance'.

Snapped up by post-Creation project Poptones, The Boxer Rebellion found themselves homeless after said imprint collapsed in onitself. Rolling up their sleeves, the London indie outfit simply began working on their own terms.

Releasing their second album in 2008, the band produced a promotional campaign the envy of well established acts. Word of mouth pushed their album further and further up the download charts, until they were wrestling with Kings of Leon for number one.

Sadly, The Boxer Rebellion made no impression on the official charts as the rules at the time dictated that a physical product must be released as well. But the group caught the public's attention and have been rewarded with an unusual film role.

The band are due to guest star in the forthcoming Drew Barrymore film. 'Going The Distance' centred on the music industry and features a guest appearance from The Boxer Rebellion.

The group appear throughout the film, and even get to perform twice. Writing a new track for the film The Boxer Rebellion have come up with something a little special for 'Going The Distance'.

The soundtrack features some indie gems, including contributions from Cat Power, Band of Skulls, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Passion Pit.

Meanwhile, The Boxer Rebellion are working on some new material. With second album 'Union' still selling strongly, the band have hooked up with influential producer Ethan Johns - best known for his work with Kings Of Leon.

Due for release in early 2011, the album comes with the added pressure of both chart and film success.
