Bono Turns Journalist

Irish rocker writes for New York Times

Irish rocker Bono is set to begin writing a column for American broadsheet the New York Times, it has been announced, with his first column appearing in January 11th’s edition.

The diminutive frontman will make his first foray into journalism by writing for one of the most respected newspapers on the planet. The articles will be accompanied by a podcast, featuring Bono’s dulcet Irish tones.

Covering a broad range of subjects, the columns are part of a series where the newspaper invites famous entertainers to write for them. In a statement Bono admitted the invitation was “an honour” but said he’s “never been great with the full stops or commas.”

U2 are currently building up to the release of their twelfth studio album. The band’s first in four years, ‘No Line On The Horizon’ is apparently a re-energised set with the group benefiting from some time off. Produced by long term collaborators Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, it is set to be one of the biggest albums of 2009.
