Pint sized Irish singer Bono is set unveil his new musical ‘Spider-man’ which is rumored to be the most expensive production in theatre history.
The singer is well known for his charity work and for campaigning to get the debts owed by African countries reduced to manageable levels. His new project is a super-hero musical and will be directed by famed theatre figure Julie Taymor. The show is said to use a budget of $40 million with each weekly run costing around $1 million.
According to calculations in the New York Post the budget means that the musical would have to run for roughly 8,000 years to break even. According to the report the enormous budget has been ear-marked for designers, who will assist in the production of everything from sets to costumes.
Bono has encountered near constant criticism from those who object to being asked to fund his charities when he fritters away countless millions. This latest report is set to pour yet more petrol on an ever expanding bonfire.
The show is set to open on Broadway in 2009.
