BONK! Share Exuberant EP ‘The Act Of Doing It’

Remarkable prog-pop from Liverpool...

Liverpool prog-pop outlaws BONK! have shared rule-breaking new EP ‘The Act Of Doing It’.

Out now, the four-tracker finds the band shattering expectations. After all, how to classify BONK! in one word? Not quite jazz, not quite rock, not quite pop, their improvisatory nous means that no two shows from the four-some are ever the same.

Hitting the studio, BONK! recruited respected producer Jim Spencer to oversee their work – after all, he’s worked with the likes of New Order, Johnny Marr, The Charlatans, Tim Burgess, The Vaccines, and Liam Gallagher, amongst others.

As such, while the EP doesn’t have a particular linearity, it does feel unified – skipping from idea to idea, you’re left in a distinctive universe, laden with colour and melodic impulse.

Comparisons could include the frenetic whirlwind of black midi, or the likes of lysergic outliers Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. In truth, however, the creativity within BONK! could only come from the connections between those four musicians.

BONK! comment…

These tracks are, I think, the best representation of the last two years of Bonk! And the whole point of the EP was to bookend that chapter as a band.

We recorded the EP live. So much of who we are as a band comes from playing live music and we wanted it to reflect that. All the main parts were recorded at the same time, in the same room by yours truly. We think our music sounds better when there’s a good chance we could mess it up at any given moment.

Tune in now.

Bonk! will play live across the UK this month on ‘The Act of Doing It’ UK tour:

4 Manchester Band On The Wall
12 Northampton The Garibaldi Hotel
18 Leicester The Big Difference
19 Leeds The Hi-Fi Club
20 London The Spice of Life
26 Sheffield The Hallamshire Hotel
