Representatives for Bobby Womack have confirmed that he is undergoing treatment for cancer.
Coaxed into working on new material by Damon Albarn and Richard Russell, Bobby Womack’s profile is higher than it has been for almost two decades. Sadly, though, this has arrived at the same time as a number of health issues.
Recently hospitalised with pneumonia, the soul icon was rumoured to be suffering from cancer. Close friend Bootsy Collins broke the news, informing fans via a series of typically outlandish Facebook postings.
Now representatives for Bobby Womack have issued a statement about the singer’s health. Posted on Facebook, the statement reads as follows:
“Because of stories circulating regarding the health of soul icon Bobby Womack, we felt it necessary to set the record straight. We’re pleased to let everyone know that Bobby was released from hospital yesterday afternoon following a successful recovery from pneumonia.”
A personal statement from Bobby Womack reads as follows:
“My family, friends and I are looking forward to a successful surgery and speedy recovery. I want to thank all of my fans for their prayers, love and well wishes. I look forward to seeing all of you on the road in support of my new release.”
