Bob Dylan is seemingly working on a new studio album, which could have a Mexican flavour.
Almost fifty years on from his debut album, Bob Dylan continues to surprise fans. The legendary songwriter’s last studio effort – ‘Christmas From The Heart’ – was a festive themed charity effort.
Released back in 2009, fans have been speculating for some time that Bob Dylan is ready to make his next move. Now it seems that the songwriter is stirring, with sessions recently taking place in Los Angeles.
The source of these reports? Los Lobos musician David Hidalgo. During a recent interview with the Aspen Times, Hidalgo revealed that he had recently entered the studio with the seminal rock poet.
Speaking about the experience, David Hidalgo said: “It was a great experience. And different. Each one has been different, all completely different approaches. It’s an amazing thing, how he keeps creativity. I don’t see how he does it”.
Continuing, Hidalgo revealed that he had been brought on board to supply a Mexican flavour. Playing accordion and the Tres – a guitar-shaped instrument – it seems that these tones have caught Dylan’s ear.
“He (Dylan) would say, ‘Wow, what’s that?” said Hidalgo. “He liked the sound. So we’d get it in there.”
If true, the timing of the sessions make sense. Bob Dylan’s first ever studio album was released back in 1962, while his long term home Columbia are about to celebrate their 125th anniversary.
Dylan’s last original studio album ‘Together Through Life’ reached number one on its release in 2009. Watch the video for ‘Beyond Here Lies Nothin” below.
