Legendary songwriter Bob Dylan is set to release a new festive themed album ‘Christmas In The Heart’ later this year.
It was one of the most intriguing rumours of the year so far. Suddenly Bob Dylan fan sites were buzzing with tales of secret recording sessions, with some suggesting that the great songwriter was working on a Christmas album.
Now it seems as though those rumours were true. A new statement from Dylan confirms the news, with ‘Christmas In The Heart’ set to be released in time for the festive countdown.
In a generous twist, all royalties from sales of ‘Christmas In The Heart’ will be donated to charities in the United States and beyond. All told, it is expected that the album will allow for more than four million meals to be provided in the United States alone during the holiday season.
Additionally, Bob Dylan is partnering with two international charities to provide meals during the holidays for millions in need in the United Kingdom and the developing world, and will be donating all of his future international royalties from ‘Christmas In The Heart’ to those organisations in perpetuity. Details regarding the international partnerships will be announced next week.
Released via Columbia Records, the album is the first of its kind to be released by Bob Dylan. However the songwriter is a fan of linking songs together by type, with his famous ‘Them Time Radio Hour’ doing exactly that.
Songs performed by Dylan on this new album include, ‘Here Comes Santa Claus’, ‘Winter Wonderland’, ‘Little Drummer Boy’ and ‘Must Be Santa’. The new album follows hot on the heels of Dylan’s latest effort ‘Together Through Life’ released earlier this year.
In a statement Bob Dylan commented, “It’s a tragedy that more than 35 million people in
this country alone -12 million of those children – often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from.”
“I join the good people of Feeding America in the hope that our efforts can bring some food security to people in need during this holiday season.”
Bob Dylan is due to release his new album ‘Christmas In The Heart’ on October 12th.
