Reformed Britpop legends Blur have been given the go ahead to play songs from their controversial final album ‘Think Tank’.
With relations in the band becoming ever more strained, Blur entered the studio to record ‘Think Tank’ a different beast from the confident band who strode across the landscape with ‘Parklife’.
Sessions for the album resulted in several rows, as the friendship between Graham Coxon and singer Damon Albarn unravelled. Finally, Coxon left the band with only one song on the finished album featuring his guitar work.

Coxon and Albarn managed to patch up their friendship at the tail end of last year, and the group are set to play their first shows in some time this summer. However much debate reigned over whether the band would play songs from ‘Think Tank’.
The guitarist explained to The Sun that he had no objections over whether material from the album was played live. “I specifically told the band that we should play ‘Think Tank’. I was very keen on that,” he explained.
“We’ll play for about two hours and do all the old favourites like ‘Country House’ and ‘Parklife’,” he said.
Coxon then added that rehearsals were going better than anyone in the band had anticipated. “We’re pretty much there now. If we needed to go on stage tomorrow we could – the show would be a mess but I quite like it like that. We all know the words now – we just need to learn to play the songs a bit better.”
The guitarist was a hit at Camden Crawl over the weekend. Graham Coxon played a set to just one hundred fans in the tiny pub The Spread Eagle. Performing a variety of tracks from his new album ‘The Spinning Top’ the guitarist seemed on good form, following his stint with Pete Doherty’s live band.
Blur are set to play two enormous shows in London’s Hyde Park in July. To warm up, the band recently announced intimate dates in London, Manchester, Wolverhampton and Southend.
