The boss of Parlophone records has argued that Blur should continue to make new material.
After last year’s unexpected re-union, Blur have stunned fans yet again. Released in time for Record Store Day, new single ‘Fool’s Day’ is the first new material the band have recorded in over seven years.
The band’s first single since 2003’s ‘Good Song’ the track is the first to be released with guitarist Graham Coxon in tow since 1999’s ‘No Distance Left To Run’.
Set to be released on April 17th, ‘Fool’s Song’ will be available on seven inch in a strictly limited edition of 1000. Intended to promote independent music, the single is planned as a one off release.
However the boss of Parlophone – Blur’s record label – revealed that he hopes the band will continue to record new material.
Speaking to BBC 6Music, Miles Leonard revealed that he sees no reason for Blur not to go in the studio. “At this point we were just really pleased to hear that they wanted to go in and record this,” he said. “And who knows, from the reaction to this song, what will come in the future.”
“I just hope that from hearing a song like this (the two new tracks on the single) that the band feel there’s more in them. We certainly do as a label, and I’m sure when fans hear this they’ll think the same.”
Continuing, the record label boss revealed that the new single shows Blur to be on form. “Damon’s lyrics are as poignant as they’ve ever been” he revealed.
“There’s personal comment and social comment within the song – this is something very special and I think the Blur fans out there are going to absolutely love what they hear.”
