Nigerian artist Bloody Civilian returns with her first release of 2024, ‘Head Start’, out via Def Jam Recordings/0207 Def Jam UK.
‘Head Start’ follows last year’s ‘Anger Management’ EP and the re-imagined remix collection, and is animated by a swaggering vocal performance over maximalist Afro-dance production. It’s another audacious offering from a maverick artist, who unleashes a series of quips to her quaking enemies and competitors.
Of the track, Bloody Civilian says: “This track is quite raw. Basically, I made a vengeance track that’s Afrobeats but is also low key Travis Scott coded. I had fun making the beat and song in general.”
Bloody Civilian’s growing legions of fans were treated to a preview of ‘Head Start’ when she performed earlier this month at the Femme Fest and Our Homecoming festivals in Lagos, Nigeria. She followed up with a special performance of ‘Head Start’ at the first ever Boiler Room TV live from Lagos, where she premiered the track in full.
