Hot on the heels of new album “Intimacy” indie giants Bloc Party have sidestepped their fans yet again by announcing that they are set to release a new, unheard, track “Talons” on October 20th.
The band have a history of releasing material not included on their albums – “Two More Years” was a collection of remixes and original material left off “Silent Alarm” while the single “Flux” has yet to be bundled onto an album.
“Talons” was recorded with the producer of Bloc Party’s debut album “Silent Alarm” Paul Epworth and set to be a fresh take on the band’s sound. Kele Okereke said that “we wanted to keep things fresh and we thought the fans would be more excited to get a new song rather than something off the album. Talons is one of the last songs we recorded during the Intimacy sessions and I always had it in mind to be one of the extra tracks we promised for the CD if it turned out well. It turned out great so we decided to make it the next single. I’m enjoying this way of working, not over-thinking things, just make a decision and get on with it! It’s quite liberating in a way, I’m sure it’s going to be the way things happen more and more in the future”.
So that’s nice. Worried fans anticipating buying two copies of the album can rest easy however, as the track will be available on “Intimacy” when hard copies reach the shops in October.
“Talons” will be available on two different 7 inch formats and CD, with remixes from The Moody Boyz, XXXChange, FrankMusik, Midfield General and Phones.
Bloc Party will release “Talons” on October 20th.
