Bloc Party have given a new interview in the wake of the physical release of their album ‘Intimacy’ in which they claim to be unconcerned by charts.
Bloc Party rush released new album ‘Intimacy’ on August 21st this year, but it was ineligible for the charts due to its download only format. Now available on a physical format, it may well enter the Top Ten this week – but bassist Gordon Lissack has insisted to BBC 6Music that chart positions aren’t the band’s priority.
“I don’t think our digital release was eligible so this is our only shot at the charts – but the kind of band we are, isn’t one you were going to see on Top Of The Pops really”, he said.
“We’ve never entirely played the game. Maybe we’ll find out that it’s a great success, but maybe we’ll find out that people just aren’t buying CDs anymore,” Lissack told the station.
It could be further bad news for the singles market with Bloc Party seemingly against physical releases. “Our record company’s been behind our ideas for this record and future singles,” Lissack continued. “We’re talking now about not doing anymore physical formats for singles meaning we won’t have anymore eligible singles after Talons.”
Bloc Party released ‘Intimacy’ on physical formats on October 27th.
