Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack has been bitten by a lion while on tour in South Africa.
Rock ‘n’ roll is littered with bizarre injuries. Forget about ‘Final Destination’ if you want to be bumped off in a truly remarkable fashion just pick up a guitar and start trying to get a band together.
The latest incident involves Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack. With Bloc Party on hiatus the musician has been working with Pin Me Down, a Transatlantic partnership which produced a debut album earlier this year.
The guitarist was invited on tour with Ash, and decided to join the Northern Irish group. Acting as a touring guitarist, Russell Lissack hooked up with the band during a short tour of South Africa.
Deciding to join singer Tim Wheeler in a visit to an animal sanctuary, the guitarist somehow managed to get himself bitten by a lion. Taken to hospital, it appears that Lissack was left relatively unscathed.
Spinner reports that the guitarist was given a tetanus booster, to prevent infection after the feline nibble. However in more worrying news the hospital Russell Lissack was sent to was recently shut down.
It seems that standards may not be as high as they should, with two men dying from an unidentified virus. As a result, the hospital was closed down with an investigation into the deaths is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Ash are back in the UK. Deciding to forego albums, the band have released 26 singles which will be compiled on the forthcoming ‘A-Z Singles’ compilation. Accompanied by a lengthy tour, the flood of material was extremely varied and delighted the band’s loyal fanbase.
Ash are set to release ‘A-Z Singles’ on October 11th.
