Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke has given a new interview in which he is scathing towards Sex Pistols singer John Lydon describing him as “the devil”.
The two had an altercation at the Summercase Festival in Spain. According to witnesses, Okereke asked Lydon to reform Public Image Limited – his post Pistols project – when a fight broke out between Okereke and Lydon’s entourage. In the astonishing incident members of Foals and Kaiser Chiefs rushed to Okereke’s aid, with the Bloc Party man alleging he was racially abused by Lydon’s crew.
In a new interview with British red top The Sun Okereke slams Lydon. “I have only one thing to say about that man – John Lydon is the devil in my eyes”.
Describing the fight he said “I really wanted to, like, whip his face off. I was lucky I had lots of people around me who were calming me down.”
“I didn’t really think about what was happening at the time. I’m not really someone who’s very good at backing down from fights. I’m just pleased there are witnesses.”
John Lydon has denied any accusations of racial abuse, saying the fight was a result of Okereke’s supposed “jealousy”.
