Blitzen Trapper have completed work on their second album and posted a new trailer.
Sub Pop is flooded with Americana. The Seattle label unleashed Fleet Foxes on the world, and have been responsible for guiding some of the plaid shirt wearing groups to emerge in their wake.
Blitzen Trapper are foremost amongst these. The band’s songwriting is steeped in Americana, with their debut album receiving widespread plaudits. An impressive first offering, it gave enough indication that the group could transcend their roots and find a truly distinctive songwriting voice.
Returning to the studio, the group have been working on new material. Breaking cover, Blitzen Trapper are due to release their second album ‘American Goldwing’ through Sub Pop on September 12th.
Little has been heard of the new material, although Blitzen Trapper are streaming the following preview…

Meanwhile, songwriter Eric Earley has revealed a few of the influences which drove Blitzen Trapper on their new album. “It’s me trying to evoke a true American nostalgia” he explained.
“My vision and focus while writing our new album was on the inescapable past. It’s about those feelings of being trapped in a small town. That fine line between the rural and the suburban settings that define much of America, that line between love and loss that occurs when you find yourself taking it too easy and sticking around a lonesome town for far too long.”
“‘American Goldwing’ is us letting our loves and early influences hang out for all to see. We entered into the sounds we grew up with – the hard guitar rock and country picking of our younger years mixed with glimmers of our usual space-aging technology and pawn shop Casios. Heavy guitar riffs and blasting drum fills live side-by-side with plucking banjos, wailing harmonicas and muddy slide guitars. The earthiness of these songs will make you want to get loaded and get in a fight, or find a girl and fall in love forever, simultaneously.”
