Pittsburgh experimental group Black Moth Super Rainbow could take a step towards the mainstream with their new album ‘Eating Us’.
Formed in Pittsburgh, Black Moth Super Rainbow is a bizarre, multi-legged creature. Beginning life under the name Satanstompingcatepillars the group began to twist and evolve into something more permanent.
Startlingly productive, forthcoming album ‘Eating Us’ is set to be the band’s fourth full length effort in just under six years. Released through their new home of Memphis Industries the album is a collection of dark, bubblegum freakout melodies.
Each band member uses stage names, with Black Moth Super Rainbow boasting the likes of The Seven Fields of Aphelion, Power Pill Fist, D.Kyler and Father Hummingbird. Through a series of CDR releases and spectacular live shows the band began to build up a cult fanbase, before 2007’s ‘Dandelion Gum’ pushed them into the public gaze.
With some creepy and offbeat audio delights, the band now boast some celebrity fans including Wayne Coyne who named the song ‘I Was Zapped by the Lucky Super Rainbow’ after the group.
Forthcoming album ‘Eating Us’ is the first time Black Moth Super Rainbow have ventured into a proper, full-fledged studio. Produced by Dave Fridmann, whose CV includes spells with Flaming Lips and MGMT, the new album embraces the more out-there aspects of the band’s sound without losing coherence.
A remarkable achievement, each track on ‘Eating Us’ expands and evolves outwards, occupying a very special part of your brain.
Black Moth Super Rainbow will release ‘Eating Us’ on June 8th. Tracklisting is as follows:
Born On A Day The Sun Didn’t Rise
Dark Bubbles
Twin of Myself
Gold Splatter
Iron lemonade
