Black Lips For Sub Pop

Label Launches New Singles Club

The legendary Sub Pop singles club is set to be relaunched for the second time, with a stellar list of participating groups including Black Lips, The Notwist and Blues Control.

The relaunch is designed to tie in with the label’s 20th anniversary celebrations. This would mean that Sub Pop was founded in 1988 but of course, as the sharp-minded amongst you may have already realised, the label released its first album in 1986 and existed as a fanzine for years before that.

The singles club became a legendary US underground institution, with its first release being “Love Buzz” by the then-unknown Seattle group Nirvana. An intriguing form of cash cow for the label, it helped keep Sub Pop solvent and acted as a launch pad for countless alternative acts.

This new, third, incarnation will being on August 15th with a release from Om. Eleven more discs will follow, with an intriguing new development being that each disc comes with a coupon for a high-quality download.

Subscriptions are available now, but be warned – there are only 1,500 copies of each available.
