Black Flag Death Hoax

Chuck Biscuits alive and well

Well regarded hardcore punk drummer Chuck Biscuits is at the centre of an internet hoax, it seems.

Real name Charles Montgomery, the drummer played in numerous local bands before discovering punk rock. Falling in love with the music of hardcore pioneers Black Flag the drummer travelled to San Francisco.

Becoming the band’s drummer for a brief spell, Chuck Biscuits played a pivotal role in the band’s ever evolving story. Never recording anything with the group in a studio, his spell with Black Flag nonetheless made an indelible impression on him.

Since then, Biscuits has worked with the punk group Danzig as well as hardcore group Social Distortion. Touring throughout North America the band have built up and old fashioned cult following with their energetic shows.

Departing the group almost a decade ago Chuck Biscuits appears to have drifted out of the music industry. However a recent blog posting claiming the drummer had died appears to have jolted his fans.

Blogger James Greene Jr had been emailing who he thought was the drummer and his wife over a period of some five months. Attempting to coax Chuck Biscuits out of retirement, the site recently reported that the former Black Flag man was dead.

However the writer has now provided an update, admitting that he may have been drawn in by an elaborate hoax.

The blog has published a letter, purporting to be from Chuck Biscuit’s wife, in which the claims of his death are dismissed. “This note is on behalf of Bob Montgomery (Chuck’s brother), who ask me (his wife) to let you know that CHUCK IS ALIVE. Bob is on his way to see him now and will send you a follow up email in the near future. Thank you for taking the time to reply to Bob’s email this morning.”

Chuck Biscuits has yet to comment on the hoax.
