Bjork Working On New Film

With Michael Gondry at the helm

Icelandic singer Bjork has let slip details of an ambitious new film project with director Michael Gondry.

Bjork’s music has always had a visual element. Even when she worked with The Sugarcubes the singer’s performances were difficult to ignore, all flailing limbs and soaring vocals against a dimly lit backdrop.

Turning solo, the Icelandic star made her name with a series of lavish tours. Tragic designer Alexander McQueen worked on Bjork’s outfits, as the singer attempted to match the ambition of her music to the stage show.

Now Bjork has let slip details of a new film project. The singer is set to team up with frequent collaborator Michael Gondry on a new full length outing, which will see them match music to images.

Speaking to The Playlist at this year’s SXSW Film Festival the director seemed excited at the prospect of working with Bjork again.

Michael Gondry said: “We have a very ambitious project, a sort of scientific musical. … (It’s a movie), but maybe more for museums. Like a 40 minute IMAX project in 3D”.

Continuing, the director explained that he is also working on a film about a group of kids who design a drink which allows the user to hear music. “It’s still in the writing (phase),” Gondry said.

“I wrote two drafts, but then we hired someone else to write another draft. I don’t think he’s very well known.”
