Billy Nomates Announces Second Album ‘Cacti’

Check out new single 'balance is gone'...

Billy Nomates will release her new album ‘Cacti’ on January 13th.

The songwriter’s fantastic debut album marked her out from the pack, while a guest turn on sleaford mods’ caustic ear-worm ‘Mork N Mindy’ helped boost her profile.

New album ‘CACTI’ is out on January 13th via Invada Records, and it’s dubbed as Billy Nomates’ most honest, open personal project yet. As she puts it: “70-80% of being bold is about being vulnerable as hell.”

The songwriter continues:

“Writing ‘CACTI’ took just over a year. I wrote very intensely and then none at all. (This seems to be the way I work best). I picked up old drum machines, mapped out things in my kitchen with the same small micro keyboard I always use and then raided the cupboards and rooms at Invada Studios, to play and experiment with old synths, an upright piano, this weird organ thing. I hope everyone finds their own narrative in ‘CACTI’. I think it’s about surviving it all.”

New single ‘balance is gone’ is online now, the barbed synths blending an alt-pop appeal to traces of the post-punk lineage. The superbly minimalist guitar solo is worthy of New Order, while the lyric – “I just go round and round” – has a joyously infectious appeal.

Billy Nomates explains: “It’s a lot to ask, balance. Does anybody feel on kilter? Has anybody achieved all that harmony? I don’t think it’s a unique chase. And some days, it’s good to acknowledge it got up and left the room.”
