Island’s legendary press officer Rob Partridge was remembered today (December 9th) by many of the artists he worked with including Tom Waits, U2 and Billy Bragg, it is reported.
Partridge worked with Island at the label’s peak, working on some era defining albums by Bob Marley and Grace Jones, as well as signing U2 to the label. A firm believer in the band, he remained friends with all of his artists after leaving Island to set up the PR firm Coalition.
Amongst the mourners at the Golders Green funeral service were all four members of U2, Tom Waits and The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess. Billy Bragg was a close friend of Partridge’s, and sang ‘Jerusalem’ to the congregation.
Rob Partridge passed away on November 26th after battling cancer for some time. Amongst his legacy is the Mercury Music Prize, which he helped found.
