'Fight Songs' compiled

Billy Bragg has released 'Fight Songs' - a new collection of political works on his website.

Political songwriting is a difficult trade to master. Protest songs tend to date very quickly, meaning that artists must continually stay on top of the game, producing an endless series of tracks.

Billy Bragg is famed for his mixture of left wing views and folk melodies, using his website to release tracks inspired by current affairs. Releasing a string of free downloads over the past ten years, the songwriter has now decided to gather the very best of these on his new 'Fight Songs' compilation.

Out now, the album is available on his website and contains nuggets from a decade of material. Gathered on CD, the compilation moves from war, terror and the national identity to the lesser spotted Billy Bragg Christmas song.

In a short statement Billy Bragg said: “For much of the past 10 years, polemical songs have been met with indifference, but the times are changing and once again there is a need for songs with fight in them.”
