Hotly tipped duo The Big Pink are a step closer to releasing their debut album ‘A Brief History Of Love’ after unveiling the tracklisting.
The Big Pink emerged at the tail end of last year, revving their motorcycles outside the mainstream. The duo take classic rock structures and bend them until they break, blending noise elements with driving synths.
Containing close friends Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell the band formed in 2007. Both musicians have extensive experience, with the pair having previously worked with renowned German pioneer Alec Empire.
Gaining critical appreciation, The Big Pink were named as ‘Ones To Watch’ by many sources at the beginning of the year. Since then, the band’s profile has sky-rocketed following a tour with TV On The Radio.
The group managed to live out their dreams recently after decamping to New York in order to record their debut album. Working in Electric Ladyland Studios – built by Jimi Hendrix – The Big Pink began focussing their live sound into something more coherent.
To date, fans have heard little of the finished article. Titled ‘A Brief History Of Love’ the band have trailed the release with the crunching single ‘Velvet’. New Yorkers Gang Gang Dance gave the song an overhaul, in what has become one of the most talked about collaborations of the year.
The Big Pink may appear tough and uncompromising on the surface, but underneath they are real romantics. In an interview with BBC Radio 6 recently Milo Cordell explained the album title by saying “every song is a love song to some degree, about every different aspect of love…”
“The good, the bad, the boring, the exciting, the dreams, the nightmares, the whole thing and I guess that’s what encompasses the whole album, and we have a song called “A Brief History of Love” so it’s apt”.
Produced by the band themselves, ‘A Brief History Of Love’ was mixed by Rich Costey who has previously worked with Muse and Interpol.
The Big Pink are due to release their new album ‘A Brief History Of Love’ on September 14th. Tracklisting is as follows:
‘Crystal Visions’
‘Too Young To Love’
‘Dominos’
‘Love In Vain’
‘At War With The Sun’
