UK group Big Joanie will release new album ‘Back Home’ on November 4th.

The band are deeply influential in UK underground music, a product of the feverish energy within London’s DIY communities. A viral cover of ‘Cranes In The Sky’ was given an official release by Third Man Records, boosting Big Joanie’s profile on both sides of the Atlantic.

New album ‘Back Home’ has been patiently constructed, and it’s set to be released in the UK via Daydream Library Series (and in the States by the venerable Kill Rock Stars).

Out on November 4th – order it online – Stephanie Phillips comments on the album title: “We were really ruminating on the idea of a home and what it means. It’s about the different ideas of home, whether that’s here in the UK, back in Africa or the Caribbean, or a place that doesn’t really exist; it’s neither here nor there.”

The album was recorded at Hermitage Works Studios in North London, with Margo Broom at the helm. New song ‘In My Arms’ is a fantastic return, sonically raw while earnest and heartfelt, the chiming guitars underpin those potent vocals.

“At this point I was getting tired of living in London and dreaming about another life,” says singer and guitarist Stephanie Phillips of the new single. “It’s about knowing you should go another way in life but you end up dreaming about the road you’ve already travelled down even though you know it won’t take you where you need to go.”

The Lydia Garrett shot video explores these themes of repression vs escapism, following a love story in Margate.

Catch Big Joanie at Third Man Records shop in Central London on Friday (July 29th).
